Spurs v. Knicks: Sore Winners, Sore Losers, and Why People Finger-Point

One of the most important things I teach my clients has nothing to do with communication, conflict resolution, or childhood wounds. It has to do with how the human brain creates meaning — how we perceive information, and whether what we perceive is accurate, or even close to reality.
Right now, your spouse could be sitting next to you on the couch, planning to divorce you. She may be planning to do it in the fall, after the holidays, or in a couple of years. I know this because I have spoken with hundreds and hundreds of people in that mindset, and I have been in that mindset myself.
Enforce Consequences — Every Time
This is the step people avoid — and the one bullies understand.
Consequences may include disengagement, documentation, formal complaints, legal action, blocking, or ending contact altogether.

Boundaries without consequences are suggestions.
Bullies stop when the cost of continuing exceeds the reward. Your job is not to change them. Your job is to protect yourself.
Bullying is abuse. It damages nervous systems, self-esteem, and trust. If you are affected by it, you are not weak. And you are not required to tolerate it.
Silence protects bullies.
Boundaries expose them.
It is with some trepidation that I reveal the third most significant influence in helping me grow and evolve: The Landmark Forum, a three-day intensive seminar dedicated to personal growth that was developed in the 1990s. I hesitate, because it catapulted me to a different level in terms of courage, self-confidence, and finding my purpose, but it has a negative aspect to it as well – high-pressure sales tactics that give it a well-deserved sleazy reputation, and that leads critics to wonder if it is a cult.
It is not a cult, and I highly recommend it for those who are curious, resilient, self-reflective, and ready for bold changes. I tell everyone I talk to about it that you must approach it with the attitude of accepting the gift it offers, while not succumbing to the pressure and sometimes unreasonable requests it makes of participants. I’ll explain more a little later.
Being Told Your Truth isn’t True is One of Life’s Most Painful Experiences. This is for those of you who have people…
